School Hours:

Punctuality

Please ensure that your children arrive promptly for school. Students who arrive after the bell at 9:00 (morning entry), 11:20 (first Nutriton Break) or 2:00 (second Nutrition Break) must report to the office for a late slip. Regular daily attendance and punctuality are important life habits. Regular attendance is necessary to maintain program continuity and the opportunity for all essential skill development. It is, however, not wise to send a child who is ill to school. Please contact the school if your child will be absent. An answering machine is available after school hours. Please speak clearly and identify your child and teacher, and give the reason for absence. If your child must arrive late at school/leave early, please sign him or her in/out at the office.

Field Trips (including Sport Team Trips)

Throughout the year, your child's class will be involved in trips beyond the school to enrich classroom studies. For all field trips that require transportation, a letter outlining the details of the trip and requesting your signed permission will be sent home. This permission form must be returned to the school in order for your child to participate. Cost of the trip and transportation will be considered when planning any excursion. At the beginning of the year, a permission form for all walking excursions close to the school will be sent home.

A permission form must be returned permitting your child to participate in any after-school athletic activity. The form must indicate how your child will be returning home - student can walk home or an adult will pick up your child at school.

Clothing & Valuables

Clothing and personal items are often misplaced or accidentally taken by another child. To avoid these losses, please label all items your child brings to school (gym clothes, boots, hats, coats, mitts, lunch bags, backpacks, etc.)

While we take every precaution to safeguard personal property, we cannot be responsible for the loss or damage to any personal items. Students are not encouraged to bring expensive items (video games, mp3, card collections, etc.) or large sums of money to school.

The Lost and Found box is located in the hallway outside the office. Valuable items such as watches, glasses, keys, jewelry, etc. are turned into the office.

Busing

Many of our students ride the bus to school. You will be given an approximate time for bus drop off/pick up of your child at the nearest stop. Students are expected to conduct themselves properly and obey the bus driver and student bus monitors at all times.

On days of bad weather, unless cancellation of transportation is announced, buses will complete their routes (although they may be later arriving at their pick-up locations). Students are advised to remain at their bus stops until the bus arrives.

Closing of Schools Due to Bad Weather

During the winter months, bad weather may cause school closures. This decision is usually made by 7:00am. Please listen for information about SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD SCHOOLS.

A message will be broadcast on the following radio stations: Rock 95FM, CHAY 93.1FM, B101 FM and LIFE 100.3.

One of the following messages will be broadcast:

Buses are cancelled. This message means that schools remain open for students – but transportation services provided by the Simcoe County District School Board are cancelled for the area(s) affected. Buses cancelled in the morning will not run at days end. Please remember that if you have driven your child to school in the morning, you must arrange appropriate arrangements to provide the safe return of your child at the end of the regular school day.

The schools are closed. This message means that, due to the severity of the weather conditions, schools are closed to students.

Reporting & Evaluation

Assessment and evaluation of students is an ongoing process.

  1. Students in grades three in Ontario undergo the Education Quality and Accountability Office Assessment (EQAO) in May. The results are sent home in the fall of the following year.
  2. A standardized Provincial report card will be sent home in December, March, and June.
  3. Following the reports in December and March, interviews are scheduled.

Effective communication between parent and teacher is important in contributing to the success of your child in school. Please feel free to contact the school when you have questions or concerns.

Character Education

INTEGRITY - RESPONSIBILITY - COOPERATION - CARING - RESPECT -
OPTIMISM - HONESTY -EMPATHY - COURAGE - INCLUSIVENESS

Character Education is a deliberate effort to nurture universal attributes that transcend racial, religious, socio-economic and cultural lines. It is a whole school effort to create a community that promotes the highest standards of student discipline and citizenship.

Commit to Character Attributes
The above ten Commit to Character attributes were selected through a series of consultations with community leaders, organizations and school communities to reflect what the communities of Simcoe County consider important.

These attributes are now addressed, taught and modeled in all elementary and secondary schools across Simcoe County.
